The Gate House Tavern certainly dates back to the seventeenth century
The Gate House Tavern certainly dates back to the seventeenth century and may have been one of the five inns known to have existed in Highgate village in 1552. Its position, was next to the thirteenth century tollgate, into the Bishop of London's park. The building, which has been rebuilt several times, was always an important meeting place and pre-eminent in Highgate's social life. It is still a thriving pub and the home of the popular Gatehouse Theatre
