Trolleybuses replaced trams on Highgate Hill in the late 1950s. A trolleybus is an electric bus that draws power from dual overhead wires via spring-loaded trolley poles, or pantographs. Two wires are required to complete the electrical circuit, whereas trams can use the rails as an electrical conductor, so only need one overhead wire
